Weapons of Mass Design

New York Times’ Scott Dadich analyses what the two presidential campaigners have to offer in terms of graphic design.

You might ask what graphic design has to do with politics? I would say it’s about as important as a box of make-up. Just ask Mr. Nixon.

Great post, Stefan. I took a road trip this weekend and came to the same conclusions after staring at bumper stickers for four hours. The Bush stuff conveys the message with simplicity and strength, and you can spot that W04 a mile away. You’d think the Dems would have the resources, with branding and advertising types traditionally leaning left. But, with all due respect, the right has put a stake in the ground as being some of the best propagandists of all time, and understand how important the message is to winning.

Design Observer has a great related thread called The Rodneydangerfieldization of Graphic Design. Fascinating stuff!
