Challenge:

Turner Broadcasting is in the business of repackaging their assets to realize revenue from them. One of those assets is the commercials that run on their networks.
Turner needed to take this enterprise and turn it into entertainment.

Solution:

Armchair created Very Funny Ads—a destination that made watching the 30-second commercials easy and fun. For the site, Armchair designed the VeryFunnyAds logo, based on TBS’s Very Funny campaign.

Ads were watched and shared from one simple homepage. Armchair removed all distractions that would discourage users from engaging with the site and created an interface that allowed all videos to load on the same page.

With each new video, the background changed to a screenshot of the commercial. The minimalist approach allowed the design of the site to be translucent while the content became the aesthetic. The site also featured bouncy animation and an opening jiggle of a kid scatting ‘very funny ads’ to reflect the TBS brand and enhance the tongue-in-cheek nature of the experience.

Results:

With the easy and addictive nature of the site, visitors kept clicking. The average time spent on the site was upwards of ten minutes and more than seven million videos were served in the first week alone.
