What do you do?
Ever feel the world must evolve around what you do for a living?
I once got assured by a U.S. customs agent that “creative director” wasn’t “really a real job.”
This video from Creative Review shows that the world has little idea what Graphic Design is. They think it’s “designs done by a computer?” or “designing labels for money maggots!”
I poked around some more… even Wikipedia appears confused, presenting the below as representation of graphic design:
I’m not going to answer what graphic design is. What I will do is show you graphic designers that do (did) it very well:
- Peter Saville
- Paul Rand
- Josef Muller-Brockmann
- Sister Corita
- Wim Crowell
- Wolfgang Weingart
- Robert Brownjohn
- M/M
- Karel Martens
- Non-Format
- Siggi Eggertsson
- Peter Rentz
- Richard Sarson
- Daniel Eatock
- Karpa
- Mike Young
- Experimental Jetset
- Linda Van Deursen
For dessert, here’s Ellen Mcfadden’s impeccable flickr collection of great graphic design.
