Schoolblock Goes Swimming

Aaron Byrd is a motion designer at Armchair.
(He also designed this really nice typeface, Schoolblock. Now it’s inside a wallet made by Adult Swim.)

Inspired by some woodblocks lying around in the conference room, Aaron started using his downtime to play with letters composed of simple geometric forms. As he got in deeper, he started a flickr account and used the names of his contacts to explore the alphabet and all the spaces in between.

As the typeface was perfected, Drew Dominey from Adult Swim discovered the Schoolblock flickr account. The simple, bold geometric lines perfectly complimented the exterior of a wallet he was working on. Excited, Drew asked Aaron if Adult Swim could use the type to create a solid lock-up for the wallet.
