Armchair is an amalgam. I’m surrounded by designers, strategists, artists, entrepreneurs, musicians, DJ’s, bloggers, animators and technologists. People that don’t just consume, but also analyze and contribute to culture. We do this in collaboration with clients and in our own time. Here are three current “own-time” highlights:

Transpose series. Kevin Byrd’s collection of carefully constructed acrylic boxes was unveiled at Modern Atlanta ’10. Each box is composed of thin layers of colored plastic cut with the precision of a laser. Kevin describes it best: “I like the way the light passing through the layers emits patterns over the course of a sun-filled day and the way the colors mute on a cloudy one. I was inspired by Donald Judd and the color light works of Dan Flavin. I too like working with industrial-engineered processes & materials. It should be noted that these pieces also make great wheel-stoppers for airplanes.”

Lyonnais. Farbod Kokabi’s band was voted Atlanta’s best-of ’09 electronica act by Creative Loafing. Inspired by the likes of Terry Riley, Rhys Chatham and other purveyors of dense repetition, Lyonnais aim to create clouds of melodies that can come from one guitar or a number of them, or might not be there at all.

Cumulus & Foam. July will see a release of my fourth typeface, a family of three fonts with the name of Cumulus & Foam. YouWorkForThem is my trusted publisher and it will be unleashed to the world at the OFFF in Paris. In the words of Anna Malsberger: “Cumulus & Foam teases us with allusions to peacocks, mustaches, umbrellas and feathers. They blossom, heave, and knock each other around. They are a glorious parade of grotesque enthusiasts.”

We MA

Armchair has been a partner in crime with MA long before we coined the acronym with its founder and visionary Bernard McCoy.

We engineered its simple and strong brand DNA to support a growing visual system. And over the years, this system has blanketed the city of Atlanta. From a fleet of MA wrapped Smartcars, posters, flyers, buttons, websites, and a book that is now fresh from the printer.
